Low Water Use Strategies for Combating Climate Change

As our bioregion becomes hotter and drier, the looming crisis of water scarcity becomes an existential threat for agriculture and society in general. Yet to this day, almost all modern agricultural systems are over-using and mis-managing water despite the development of drip irrigation and other attempts at reducing water use. The workshop’s presenters - a dry-farm grape grower and winemaker ; a low resource-input vegetable and fruit farmer; and a reduced water-use vegetable grower will describe ways they have approached the management of water on their farms. They will share their experiences, the successes, failures, and learnings and how their understanding of water, soil and plant interactions has evolved over time.
