For our farming system to be worth sustaining, a fundamental transformation is needed to make farmwork the respected, well-remunerated vocation that matches its importance to society. The latest legislative solution, the Farm Labor Modernization Act, would increase and extend H2A visas into a slightly modernized version of the Bracero program. In this workshop, a farmer, a photographer who has devoted his craft to uplifting farmworkers and bringing attention to the injustices visited upon them and a union organizer will lead a deep dive into current realities and then hold an open discussion of alternatives - unionization, residence visas for current undocumented workers, worker- owned cooperatives, our visions and imaginaries for fair relationships that that will make farming equitable and resilient.
