An Indigenous Panel: Food Sovereignty, Appropriation, and Landback as Integral Pieces of Organic Farming Systems

The Organic movement has borrowed heavily from Indigenous practice and theory over the years without proper acknowledgement. Some lands, now certified organic, were not borrowed but were taken and stolen from tribes. The Landback movement is a strong and growing force to decolonize lands and reverse these practices. The path toward equity and justice can only be found by following those who have lived and worked in this space. A-dae Romero Briones is a leading voice in how we understand American food and land systems. Samantha Hilborn is from the Laguna and Acoma Pueblos and an Organic Consultant with the Rodale Institute. They will be discussing some ways that American Indians relate to the Organic food movement, reclaiming their food sovereignty, and efforts of the landback movement.
