There is a dominant narrative about why 40 million Americans are food insecure and small farmers struggle to make ends meet. Farmers and consumers alike are impacted by conditions whereby control over arable lands, seeds and inputs are increasingly consolidated and racialized, and production models exploit vulnerable workers in the US and globally. These lived experiences from the extractive food system are further contributing to climate change and loss of biodiversity. A network is emerging that is weaving together State-level Right to Food Initiatives into a National Right to Food Community of Practice. The network aims to facilitate state-to-state learning among organizers towards a national movement for the right to food and supports participants as protagonists in policy and decision-making.
