Job Description: 

Under the direction of the assistant director of Finance, Development, and Operations the facilities lead supports the functioning of the UCSC Farm, gardens, and facilities project planning and implementation by serving as a lead on facilities maintenance, rodent control, and project prioritization. The incumbent applies campus policies and procedures to resolve a variety of facilities maintenance issues. Leads completion of maintenance projects and works closely with the Division of Social Sciences director of research facilities and operations and divisional staff to support capital project implementation.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

65% - Facilities Maintenance

Assists management in the development of the annual facilities budget.
Purchases supplies, conduct bid proposals, and leads, supervises, or performs small-scale unit renovation projects, rodent control, and general maintenance.
Reviews facility project drawings or plans and reports building need compliance, errors or omissions to management, organization personnel, and outside contractors.
Leads student employees, and Center staff when appropriate, on facilities upgrades and maintenance.
15% - Building and Project Coordination

Works with management to support departmental oversight of capital improvement projects with Capital Projects. Works with onsite contractors.
Acts as Building Coordinator for organization emergency/disaster preparedness for assigned venues and serves as the communication liaison between organization service agencies and building occupants. Lead staff where appropriate on area plans and updates.
Maintaining accurate records of all access control activities, overseeing issuing and replacing keys and recovering department keys from departing personnel, reporting any failure to recover access control keys to department management and UCPD, and securely storing unassigned keys in the department UCPD-approved cabinets.
Conducts regular periodic rounds to inspect areas for security, fire, and accident hazards and takes appropriate action as required, including reporting infractions of fire and building codes, building rules, and other building irregularities to management. Leads student and center staff in supporting these inspections.
15% - Operational Coordination

Leads and coordinates maintenance and repair of departmental fleet vehicles and equipment.
Acts as a representative of the organization safety committee, building emergency committee and ergonomic program, maintaining departmental compliance with OSHA / EH&S regulations regarding state and organization policy. Maintain Pesticide Applicator License for the Center and compliance.
Acts as department equipment coordinator through the equipment tracking system(s) and conducts department inventory controls, including processing and maintaining records of equipment insurance requests.
5% - Other Duties

Performs basic office skills, including using email, keeps appropriate records, maintains files and keeps computer files updated and organized for coordination.
Attends Center staff meetings.

Education & Experience: 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility maintenance.
Written communication skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, and training documents.
Skills to work under pressure of deadlines in a stressful environment.
Active listening, interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills to effectively resolve questions, concerns, issues or problems and ensure cooperative and productive working relationships.
Skills to work independently and as part of a team.
Working organizational skills to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines, to establish goals and work load priorities, and to meet project deadlines within budget and time constraints.
Working knowledge of practices and procedures of safety and emergency preparedness.
Experience and knowledge of the techniques and skills for a range of skilled trades including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, irrigation, electrical, HVAC.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One year experience as a Building Maintenance Worker.
