Seeking a Herdmanager and also a Farm Hand

About Our Farm:

Our 160 acres is certified organic and we have 150 goats and 80 sheep. Our on-site creamery turns their milk into award winning cheeses. Our farming practices put the health of the animals and the land at the top of our priority list.

Job Title: Herd Manager

Job Position Herdmanager:

We are looking for a full time, live on farm, herd manager to manager the animal husbandry aspects of the farm. Our long term Herdmanager and her partner (Land Steward Manager) are needing to be with family and so we are looking to fill her very big shoes! We will be downsizing our herd and flock to ensure that this is a manageable position.

An average week could include like:

1-2 milking shifts per week
Herd Health (administering meds, hoof trimming, breeding, kidding/lambing)
Barn Chores (cleaning, sorting animals)
Pasture Management (moving animals to the most optimal pasture)

This position involves coordinating with the Head Cheesemaker in the creamery, the owners, as well as working with/managing fellow farm employees and volunteers.

Employment Classification:

Year-round, full-time salaried position

Essential Job Functions Include:

Farm Chores
Monitoring & responding to changes in animal health
Assist in maintaining milking equipment & bulk tank
Assisting with farm infrastructure projects
Animal husbandry
Breeding and genetics
Record Keeping
Scheduling the team

For Farmhand you need less experience than the description above and you can live on or off the farm.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Ideal Qualifications:

Can lift 50+lbs on a regular basis
Written and spoken fluency in English
Preference for local applicants
Valid driver’s license (this job requires driving the farm truck, RTV and Tractor)
Experience working with goats and/or sheep
Animal husbandry experience required
Comfortable managing/working with other employees
We give every employee 2 days off in a row
Willingness to learn, to know when to ask for help or to ask questions, and a self-starter.
