With January around the corner, we need your help now to secure attendance for at least 80 deserving scholars at the 37th annual EcoFarm Conference!
Elspeth Tozier was a 2016 EcoFarm Scholarship recipient. Working toward a healthier food culture for her community and through her farm, Elspeth helped implement a local food hub, Surprise Valley Grown, which has brought local veggies into school lunches and restaurants in Modoc County, California. She is also active in making herbal medicine from locally grown and wild harvested herbs.
Elspeth especially values the sense of community she feels at EcoFarm, and the importance of learning from each other. "I think it is valuable for experienced farmers to attend [the conference], in order to stay relevant and learn about new ways of doing things. It's also a way for them to stay connected with the young people and to share their knowledge. The farming community must be multi-generational. Without the knowledge from the elders, we would be truly lost."
EcoFarm is committed to fostering new leadership in ecological agriculture through its Scholarship Program. In an effort to deepen the program and facilitate attendance of people from diverse backgrounds and geographical areas, EcoFarm has expanded this year’s offerings and outreach.
