The Biden administration seeks to ‘build back better’ in the wake of the pandemic. How can our movement work together to ensure that this includes building stronger organic production systems and structured opportunities to support farmers’ transition to organic with a deliberate outreach to BIPOC farmers? In this workshop, we will discuss the state of the USDA organic program, efforts by the organic community to put organic back on solid footing, and ways we can create a more diverse and inclusive movement prepared to meet future challenges. Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, has already stated that USDA will address systemic racism and support farmers to implement climate-friendly practices. How do we hold him accountable to these goals?
