Why join Honore?
Be part of a passionate community that is committed to restoring and strengthening the relationship between people and the land through regenerative farming practices, the cultivation of heritage grains and experiential education. We do so by honoring agricultural practices that revitalize the health of our communities while building resilience into our dynamic food system to benefit future generations to come.
Honoré is inclusive, supportive and values a team culture based on collaboration.
Flexible hours and hybrid arrangement.
Opportunities to grow and assume other responsibilities if desired.
The role
While wheat comprises a large percentage of United States student daily calories, it is largely missing from existing F2S programming including the growing of wheat in school gardens. Honoré has successfully secured state and federal funding to research introducing farming wheat into school gardens nationwide as well as procurement of local grains, recipe development and food service staff training along with studying how wheat education can be layered into existing educational structures especially benefiting underrepresented student populations.
We are looking for a Farm to School Community Education and Outreach Manager to support our hands-on education program as well as outreach to schools. Honoré deploys a powerful education tool, a custom Mobile Mill that travels to schools offering hands-on experience teaching students how to transform grain into flour––drawing a tangible connection between a stalk of wheat and a loaf of bread. The Farm to School Community Education and Outreach Manager will lead educational sessions based around heirloom wheat.
Our ideal Farm to School Community Education and Outreach Manager is someone with teaching and garden/farm knowledge/experience who lives in the Bay Area. All teaching will take place outside so the Farm to School Community Education and Outreach Manager educator must be comfortable teaching hands-on lessons outdoors. This is a part-time position, estimated 15-20 hours/ week, teaching three-four sessions in 2023. We are planning to increase the number of teaching days in 2024. To some extent the days and times of the educational sessions can be scheduled with the Educator’s availability in mind.
