Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Farm Manager to lead the operations of our farm, with a primary focus on crop cultivation. As the Farm Manager, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and executing a comprehensive agricultural strategy, ensuring optimal land use, sustainable practices, and successful crop and animal yields.
Responsibilities:
• Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a detailed farm plan, outlining crop selection, planting schedules, irrigation systems, pest and disease management, animal husbandry, forestry, and crop rotation strategies.
• Animal Husbandry: Oversee the management of all animals, including day to day care and raising of the animals.
• Crop Selection: Research, analyze, and recommend suitable crop varieties based on local climate, soil conditions, market demand, and profitability.
• Irrigation Management: Design, install, and manage efficient irrigation systems to ensure consistent water supply for the crops, adjusting based on weather conditions and crop needs.
• Planting and Cultivation: Oversee and participate in planting activities, ensuring proper spacing, soil preparation, and planting techniques to optimize crop growth.
• Soil Health: Monitor and maintain soil fertility through soil testing, nutrient management, and incorporation of organic matter to promote healthy crop growth.
• Pest and Disease Control: Implement integrated pest management strategies, utilizing both preventive measures and targeted treatments to minimize crop damage.
• Harvesting and Post-Harvest Handling: Plan and coordinate harvesting activities, ensuring timely and efficient gathering of crops at their peak maturity. Implement proper post-harvest handling techniques to maintain crop quality.
• Forestry: Supervise tree maintenance, while also developing and implementing sustainable forestry management plans. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring and managing forest health.
• Data Collection and Analysis: Regularly collect and analyze data related to crop performance, yield, and resource utilization. Use this data to make informed decisions for continuous improvement.
• Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Manage the farm budget, allocate resources effectively, and procure necessary supplies and equipment for seamless farm operations.
• Compliance and Regulations: Stay informed about local and national agricultural regulations, permits, and certifications. Ensure the farm's operations remain compliant with all relevant laws and standards.
Qualifications:
• Preferred bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Crop Science, Horticulture, or related field.
• Must have experience in farm management, animal husbandry, forestry, and sustainable agricultural practices.
• Strong knowledge of crop varieties, planting techniques, irrigation systems, and soil management.
• Familiarity with agricultural machinery, equipment, and technology.
• Commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices.
• Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
