Controlling Pest Animals Without Poisons on Farms

It has been estimated that vertebrate pests cause $944 million in annual damage to U.S. agriculture. Here in California small organic farmers, especially, are losing a significant percentage of harvest potential to vertebrate pests such as gophers, ground squirrels, rats, and mice. This workshop will address the latest, most effective tools and crop strategies to reduce this eternal and frustrating problem. Learn trapping strategies, effective barriers, cover crops, and rotations, and hear an update on new tools and technologies that are key to successful pest damage reduction. Thomas Wittman, owner of Gophers Limited and former organic farmer, has been specializing in this topic for over 35 years and will present new information in a fun and intensive session.
