Winona LaDuke (Anishinaabe) is an internationally renowned activist, author, and orator working on issues of climate change, renewable energy, sustainable development, food systems, and environmental justice. She lives and works on the White Earth reservation in northern Minnesota, and is a two time vice presidential candidate with Ralph Nader for the Green Party.
LaDuke is founder and Co-Director of Honor the Earth, a national advocacy group that encourages public support and funding for native environmental groups. A graduate of Harvard and Antioch Universities, LaDuke advocates restoring systems that have long been considered sacred. "Food for us comes from our relatives, whether they have wings or fins or roots. That is how we consider food. Food has a culture. It has a history. It has a story. It has relationships. We are at this point, known in prophecies as the time of the 7th fire, where we have a choice. This is a choice between a well-worn, scorched path and a new, green path. It is time to find our courage, do the right thing, and change consciousness."
