Special Fruits for Specialty Markets

All small and mid-sized growers want to distinguish their crops from the mass market. Choosing special varieties is a challenge, however, because catalogs and nurserymen promote the selling points of their varieties without disclosing their shortcomings. Unusual fruit varieties provide unique opportunities for direct-market growers to shine, but not much is known about their adaptation and disease resistance. Our expert has decades of experience at Dave Wilson Nursery and Four Winds Growers. He will discuss the highlights and drawbacks of various stone and pome fruits, citrus, figs, and pomegranates. The latter two may be especially good for diversification, since they don't need as much water as many other crops.
