Given the fact that California is justly famous as one of the premier seed growing regions in the world, it is ironic that there is currently a huge deficit of high quality organic seed for market growers, even those within the golden state. Thus the opportunity now exists to build a resilient and responsive web of plant breeders, seed growers, educators, and marketers to address this issue. In fact, a nascent network is already forming that is sharing equipment, seed and technical know-how; conducting variety trials; and selecting and breeding plants that thrive under a rapidly changing climate. We’ll hear from some active members of this community about the latest developments in their respective regions.
