Ground Operations: Battlefields to Farmfields (41 mins, 2013)
Friday, 10:30 am in Toyon

Veterans are looking for new and challenging careers while the USDA calls for one million new farmers and ranchers over the next decade to replace the 50% of American farmers near retirement age. Agriculture’s problem is the veterans’ solution: GROUND OPERATIONS champions the growing network of combat veterans who are transitioning into careers as sustainable farmers, ranchers and artisan food producers.
This screening of GROUND OPERATIONS with filmmaker Dulanie Ellis is hosted by the California Grange.

Permaculture: The Growing Edge (43 mins, 2010)
Friday, 5:30 pm in Chapel

PERMACULTURE: THE GROWING EDGE is an antidote to environmental despair, a hopeful and practical look at a path to a viable, flourishing future. The film introduces us to inspiring examples of projects and interviews some of the key figures in the Permaculture movement, a worldwide network of skilled ecological designers, teachers, food growers, natural builders, environmental activists and visionaries.
Post-screening discussion with environmental activist and permaculture designer Starhawk.

Food Chains (83 mins, 2014)
Friday, 7:30 pm in Chapel

There is more interest in food these days than ever, yet there is very little interest in the hands that pick it. Farmworkers, the foundation of our fresh food industry, are routinely abused and robbed of wages. FOOD CHAINS focuses on an intrepid and highly lauded group of tomato pickers from Southern Florida – the Coalition of Immokalee Workers or CIW – who are revolutionizing farm labor. Their story is one of hope and promise for the triumph of morality over corporate greed – to ensure a dignified life for farm workers and a more humane, transparent food chain.
