Discussion Group/Town Hall: The New Farmworker Overtime Law in California

Last September, Governor Brown signed AB 1066, a new law covering farmworker wages, hours and working conditions. Starting in 2022, farms with more than 25 employees, and in 2025 all farms, will be required to pay farmworkers overtime wages for days longer than 8 hours and for weeks longer than 40 hours. Small- and medium-sized ecological farmers as well as farmworkers will be dramatically affected by the legislation, with unintended consequences of seeing many lose their farms, jobs, or working hours. Join this session to learn more and hear voices on both sides of the issue.
