Conservation You Can Taste: Healing the Urban-Rural Divide

This is a forum on how farmers are helping to bridge the urban-rural divide, providing public access to food biodiversity for low-income households of refugees, immigrants and indigenous families. The session will highlight efforts in Tucson, Arizona – the first UNESCO-designated City of Food Cultures in the U.S. The city is recognized for its many seed banks, free seed libraries and nonprofit nurseries. Gary will describe innovative means by which farmers and gardeners can collaborate with urban dwellers to augment food security and economic well-being. The workshop will feature 40 new food micro-enterprises that have created 150 new value-added foods and beverages from locally grown and prepared wild and cultivated edibles.
