Agricultural Ombudsmen help farmers understand and navigate the increasingly complicated web of local, state and federal rules that apply to production agriculture. The ombudsmen operate in four California counties today, but what about the other 54 counties? Maybe it’s time they got an ombudsman or ombudswoman of their own? We’ll explore the role of the Agricultural Ombudsman, including examples of the ways they have helped producers, and explain the process by which each of the existing ombudsman positions were created and funded. Then we’ll dig into the different pathways you might explore to get one for your county.
