The Farmer-Driven Ethical Diet

Small-scale and organic livestock and dairy producers face numerous challenges, including consolidated markets, limited access to processors, and prices that don’t reflect the cost of production. In addition, consumers are increasingly turning away from meat and dairy consumption in favor of plant-based diets. Yet organic dairy and livestock provide numerous benefits to natural lands and are a crucial part of many diversified farm systems. Organic producers are making a concerted effort to store carbon, conserve native species, and protect natural waterways, while also providing economic benefits to rural communities. This panel will share strategies for successfully communicating the benefits of organic livestock production and will discuss ways we can shift consumer energy back to family farmers.
