The number of U.S. farms that produce renewable energy has doubled in the past five years, to more than 133,000. What more can be done? There are some exciting examples, including Organic Valley’s goal to be 100% renewable at their Wisconsin facilities, and a movement to establish local decision-making authority for energy procurement that can finance renewable energy projects on farms and elsewhere. In this session, we will hear from two agriculture leaders in renewable energy.. Straus Family Creamery powers their dairy and their vehicles with electricity from the methane off-gassing from their manure lagoons. Clif Bar recently set up an investment fund for on-farm wind turbines in several Midwestern states. Come hear how they are doing it and how to scale up.
