The Latinx Youth’s State of the Union

There is no agriculture in California without the Latinx community. Latinx farmers are the fastest-growing demographic of farmers in California and make up the majority of farm labor in the United States. Yet, this group of farmers and farm workers is silenced by being excluded from policy decisions at the national and state level. With immigration reform on the back burner, the fear of deportation as an everyday lived experience, their children at the border in cages and separated from their families, they are furthermore targeted by politicians and President Trump who has called them “rapists and drug dealers.” These farmers live in the most economically devastated regions of California and have challenges starting and growing their farming businesses. Learn about what this means for their descendants and their future. Panelists will share their experiences in the local food system. They will speak to the intentional exclusion of their voice and community as professionals and farmers and will provide solutions for a better future.
