In 2016 the National Ag Apprenticeship Learning Network was formed to strengthen the capacity of agricultural apprenticeship programs across the country. This multi-state team analyzed existing training programs and identified best practices. Rogue Farm Corps and their partners take beginning farmers from learner to farm manager/owner through advanced-level farmer training, a farmer incubator program, ongoing peer-to-peer networks, and continuing education. The programs address gaps in curriculum for on-farm apprenticeship learning and professional development for farm and ranch mentors. This session will share RFC insights to improve mentoring for the next generation of farmers and ranchers. We will also hear an update on farmer training in California and on state legislation to expand options for farm interns in the state.
