What Makes a Healthy Soil?

Despite all the hoopla about healthy soils, there are still great gaps in our knowledge about what practices improve soil quality. Our speakers will discuss well-known and developing techniques for evaluating soil health. Will has more than 40 years experience in analyzing soils for biological agriculture. For 30 years he has developed protocol to analyze the physical, chemical and biological aspects of soil. His lab now offers three innovative analytical procedures for measuring soil biological activity. Ray is a champion of cover cropping, no till farming and developing biologically active soils. He will discuss "Five Soil Health Principles," assessing nutrient cycling and the power of soil biology. This will be a powerhouse session for farmers of all crops and scale.
