This workshop will provide tools to evaluate soils and manage risk, focusing on the physical, chemical and biological indicators of soil quality in the urban environment. Participants will leave with the tools to field-assess their soils, and a deeper understanding of ways to improve their soil quality. The discussion will include urban soil safety in the context of heavy-metal safe growing and risk management for urban production farms, backyards, and community and school gardens. This session will be interactive. You should come expecting to get a little (more) dirt under your nails, as we take a look at the soil.
