California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) students will focus on the joys and challenges of farming communally. In spring 2018 students studied the triple crisis of climate, energy and food. They applied their classroom knowledge to the field by testing how they could become food sovereign as a student community by farming collectively for one semester. They learned how the college experience does not need to be of Universities as food deserts. Using agroecological principles, a diverse group of students learned how to be food sovereign, farm communally while engaging good academic and agricultural practices. This session will be led by CSUMB professor Robina Bhatti who also farms at ALBA, and by CSUMB students Maranatha Crommes, Keily Hanson, and Mujeeb Monib.
