Over 200 million pounds of pesticides are applied to California fields annually. Over 500,000 students attend school within 1⁄4 mile of pesticide use. Farmworkers are on the frontlines of pesticide exposure, and have been involved in pesticide restriction efforts for more than 50 years. Californians for Pesticide Reform has created a network of community groups working to reduce pesticide harm. Their victories include regulations to reduce pesticide use near schools, and steps toward banning brain-harming chlorpyrifos. Amigo will address the fraud of pesticide-residue testing, based on data from CDFA, EPA and CA DPR. Despite increased regulation, growth in organics, increased IPM awareness, and more concentrated pesticides, pesticide use is still rampant in California. Learn how you can help move agriculture toward a more ecological future.
