This workshop will focus on the use of seasonal high tunnels, or hoop houses, in organic farming operations. Hoop houses can help extend the growing season, improve plant and soil quality, decrease nutrient and pesticide applications, reduce disease, conserve water, improve air quality through lowered transportation inputs, protect crops from unpredictable weather, and reduce energy use. Technical and financial assistance are available for design, purchase and construction—including for companion practices such as drainage control measures—through Farm Bill programs administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Is a hoop house right for your operation and your future?
